Fan Feature: Chad Gilbert from New Found Glory

We have a special fan feature, today! Musician and record producer Chad Gilbert from New Found Glory!

Chad recently tied the knot to Paramore’s Hayley Williams, so we’re hoping Hayley lets him keep his “nerd room”… (and CONGRATS to you both, our wedding present is on the way!).

What is your favorite McFarlane Toy? I think my favorite is the Movie Maniacs Jaws set. I love how detailed it is. Every McFarlane figure is detailed but this one in particular to me looked difficult to pull off. With Jaws attacking the back of the ship! I had two of them. One I set up in my old apartment bathroom and then the one I still have that’s still in the box.

What is your favorite McFarlane Construction Set? I just started collecting the construction sets, but I own the Game of Thrones ones and they are amazing. Can’t wait for the next batch of them.

What was the hardest McFarlane Toy to find in your collection? When I was in middle school I think every other day I would go to the toys r us in my town and look for Malabogia! There was so much folktale about that figure. Either a package defect or they were so heavy that they were too expensive to send. The toys r us employee I guess was a collector too so I’m pretty sure he kept them all for himself. After being disappointed too many times I ended up buying one at a comic convention.

What was the most valuable McFarlane Toy in your collection? I’ve never looked up how valuable all of them are but the one most valuable to me is the Edward Scissorhands movie maniacs figure. I was a huge fan of Tim Burton movies and when that figure came out I was blown away. Back then Tim burton was still more underground and alternative so I never thought I’d see a toy! Let alone a McFarlane! Way ahead of its time.

How big is your McFarlane Toys collection? My collection is huge honestly! Like a garage full of plastic bins! And I have a lot out of the bins on display as well. I’ve been collecting from the day they started. From the first spawn series!

Where do you display your collection? (Living room, desk, etc.) I have a room where I display figures in glass cases! It’s my nerd room. Made for my gaming and collections. Don’t tell anyone. (McFarlane note: Your secret’s safe with us!)

What is one toy or brand you wish McFarlane Toys would RE-MAKE? I feel like the movie maniacs series was so ahead of its time. It’s been imitated by so many companies but I think no one can nail that detail as well as McFarlane! So I think to remaking and doing more Movie maniacs figures would be great.

What is one toy or brand you wish McFarlane Toys would produce? When McFarlane released the Clive barker tortured souls figures my dream was so close to coming true which was NIGHTBREED figures. NIGHTBREED is my favorite horror movie and all the monster characters in that movie would look so amazing as McFarlane figures. I guess at this point it’s not too mainstream of a movie now but I’d love it.

What is one McFarlane Toy you want but don’t have in your collection? I don’t know if this is true but when I started collecting I heard that there was an Overkill figure from series one spawn where the parking meter numbers where written in pencil. I would look close at the figures in the toy stores but couldn’t find one. No internet back then so I had no way to know or clarify if that was even true. Maybe y’all could answer that for me? I’d love that if it was real. Also I opened my alien and ripley playset when I moved awhile ago and it broke. I’d love that again and I’d leave it in the box.

If you were an action figure, what accessories would you come with? Well it depends what edition of me. Chad tour edition would come with a guitar, records, and a box of cheese itz. Chad home edition would come with coffee, a donut, and a board game. Chad jock edition would come with boxing gloves and a heavy bag. Or a cool two back with me and my fiancé and my dog.

Why did you start collecting McFarlane Toys? My first collection addiction were comics books. When the Spawn comic came out I loved it. So when the toy came out I naturally started collecting it. Then my addiction transitioned from comics to toys full on.
