Alex Ovechkin is the greatest goal-scorer in NHL history, breaking Wayne Gretzky’s record with his 895th goal in April 2025. Known as “The Great 8,” Ovechkin has set numerous records, including the most game-winning goals and 40-goal seasons. A powerful and skilled forward, he won the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year in 2006 and has earned multiple Maurice Richard and Hart Trophies throughout his career. Ovechkin led the Washington Capitals to their first Stanley Cup championship in 2018, winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. His combination of scoring ability, physical play, and passion has made him one of hockey’s all-time greats.
