Like ALL the characters in Spawn, Malebolgia has evolved over the years (after nearly 300 issues, how could he not).
Forged in the fires of Hell’s Eight Circle, Malebolgia is one of Spawn’s chief TORMENTORS. And, while this vile LORD OF HELL has COUNTLESS tricks up his sleeve, his GREATEST weapon is his army of Hellspawn.
Lt. Col. Al Simmons (a.k.a Spawn), made a desperate bargain to see his wife again, after he mysteriously died. In return, Simmons would become a GENERAL in Malebolgia’s army of the damned! But, as we ALL know, Al Simmons has a mind (and will) of his own, and over time, becomes a constant threat to Malebolgia’s sinister plans.
Even going so far as to kill Malebolgia in the landmark 100th issue of SPAWN!!!
But can you REALLY kill a Lord of Hell? Longtime SPAWN readers know NOTHING in Al Simmons life AND afterlife is ever quite as simple..not even life and death!!!
Of course, this only scratches the surface of who Malebogia was/is/will become, and I know YOU folks know a LOT more!
