TODD TIP TUESDAY

Here is some of the EASIEST advice for you good people!!!

I’d been working on Coyote when it got canceled, which was a bummer for me. But when I went back into the artist pool, I was a PROFESSIONAL!

But even though I only had FOUR MONTHS more experience that separated me as a amateur and now as professional, I was able to check those boxes that made me more marketable.

I worked for Marvel (check)

I am a professional (check).

Anyways… I sent my samples into the SAME people who rejected me, but who gave me good constructive criticism (THOSE are the people you need).

I’ve said it before, you NEED to find someone who will be HONEST to you. Don’t show your work to your mom, because she’ll tell you it is the best drawing she’s ever seen (which is super sweet, but not helpful).

You want to find someone who will help you GROW into a professional. AND the BIGGER part of that is actually LISTENING to that advice and critique. Then, take that advice and APPLY it.

Look it, NO ONE likes to hear their work isn’t good enough and some people don’t like change. BUT the person looking at your work is seeing it from a DIFFERENT point of view.

So those people who had rejected me gave me such good advice, I was able to go back to them after a short period of time and SHOW them I had grown as an artist, which ended up getting me a full-time gig.

Here’s a page from Coyote I sent to the editors and here’s just ONE  rejection letters I got from the big guys (and looks who’s on the envelope).
