Tip from the Toddfather on Lettering Comics.

December 08, 2017

A lot of times, I see artists do some AMAZING art…BUT they don’t leave room for the lettering.

Not only does that make the letterist’s job DIFFICULT, but it cuts out some of the hard work the artist has been doing. So instead of making it PART of the artwork, it’s almost overshadowing it.

What you see here is part of the first story ark in Spider-Man titled ‘Torment’. I have ALWAYS felt (and still do), that the LETTERING was just as important on the page as anything else.

The sound effects and placement of the word balloons become PART of the artwork and compliment it instead of HIDE it.

Quick and easy tip!
