People ask me why I don’t go back to ‘the old days of Spawn’ and the truth is Spawn (a.k.a. Al Simmons) is not the same…I’M no the same. When I started writing Spawn I was in my 20’s and NOW I’m in my 50’s…so is Al. AND my audience is older (sorry to say folks).
I’ve lived and worked on Spawn for 26 years, he’s EVOLVED. Although the story was ALWAYS dark and gritty, Spawn has changed with each story written.
If you pick up a current issue of Spawn (which I hope you all do), the art (done by Jason Shawn Alexander), is significantly different than when I started. It has a HORROR aspect to it and it’s DARKER (if that’s possible) than it use to be.
I can go on and on AND ON about Spawn, but I’ll end the post here.
