Motivational Monday!

One lesson I’ve learned in my MANY years as an artist and is still the TOUGHEST lesson to accept, is not EVERY page I draw is going to be perfect (being an artist means that perfectionism comes with the territory).

Once I accepted that (begrudgingly), I was able to make my deadlines

A LOT easier.

Below is a page from Marvel Spider-Man issue two. On this page there are FIVE comic book panels and on THREE of them, I did some fudging!

On panel ONE (the one on the far left), I didn’t have time to put all the detail in so I FAKED the building with some thin lines. Not only did it take less time, but the reader got the sense the building was far off in the distance.

On panel FOUR, the newspaper needed to look like just that…a NEWSPAPER. So for the smaller stories on the front page, I drew lines to give the impression there were words in small print.

On panel FIVE (the one on the far right), The top portion of the panel is mostly black. That’s because I didn’t have time to create details in the buildings or windows. Blacking out is helpful tool for quick fixes but it also gave the illusion the characters were in a dark alley…so it was a win-win for me!
