Today’s Throwback Thursday is from the TWISTED LAND OF OZ!! Here’s a NEW photo of an old toy.
Back in the early 2000’s… McFarlane Toys launched a ‘McFarlane Monsters’ series. In 2003, the SECOND Monsters series was based on the L. Frank Baum novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The classic characters received bit of a ‘McFarlane twist’ in the series…. basically what I liked to call an artistic interpretation of what COULD HAVE BEEN in an alternate Wizard of Oz universe.
We even had to put warnings out there that these TOYS were NOT for children under 17. That’s just how twisted they really were.
Toto is covered in see-through flesh, included a full harness system and back-mounted rider. What we didn’t really advertise was that its stomach opened up to find a little ‘surprise’ inside. The packaging included Chapter 8 of Twisted Land of Oz mythology.
