I’M NOT AN INVENTOR!!!!
I have NOT invented ANYTHING in my life……I just make things COOLER (in my opinion). Take a look at Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple. He did the same thing. He wasn’t necessarily an INVENTOR (didn’t invent anything NEW)… He just made Apple cooler.
When I took over for Spider-Man, it was already in existence..someone had already ‘invented’ it (and we ALL know who did THAT), but when I stepped on, there were things about it I wanted to change..like the WEBBING… because I never understood why Spidey’s web was so THIN. So really, I didn’t invent anything. I just made the webbing COOLER (again, in my opinion).
If you’re not familiar with my Spider-Man webbing… what is called “spaghetti webbing”…take a look at the image below. I wanted to make it more like a cowboy lasso and give it a sense of drama, movement and depth (so the pages would be more exciting!). And although my editors at Marvel wanted me to keep the traditional ‘Marvel style’, I tried to push some of the boundaries of the design and get away with as much as I could….
So here’s my advice to you good people out there (to everyone who wants it)… I ENCOURAGE everyone to be entrepreneurs… And you don’t have to invent anything NEW…just have to invent something BETTER and more efficient.
