How many of you REMEMBER the FIRST round of Spawn toys from McFarlane Toys????
You guys seem to like the #FlashbackFriday posts… so here’s a Flashback Friday AND #ActionFigureFriday AND a SPAWN MONTH flashback all in one!!!
Some of you might have heard this story before… but for those of you who haven’t, here’s the quick version…
As Spawn became popular, a lot of the toy companies wanted the license to make Spawn toys…. but the stuff they showed me was NOT what I was envisioning for my character. I wanted Spawn to look DIFFERENT than what was on the shelves at the time… So I decided to make my own toy.
THIS was the first Spawn toy we made… It sold really well for us and it got us established in the big retailers like Toys ”R” Us. We even won a couple awards because it was ‘cutting edge.’ We were doing stuff that nobody else was doing at the time, but compared to the toys we make now…. it’s almost looks COMICAL (because it’s no where near as detailed). But it got us STARTED.
We even had a Spawn PLAYSET way back when!!!! Maybe I subconsciously always knew we’d break into the building set category!!
