My 16-Year Old Self Knows BEST!!!!!

November 14, 2015

THE 16 YEAR OLD ME KNOWS BEST!!

When I do signings, I see a LOT of interesting things (sometimes stuff I forgot I created), but it’s AWESOME to see what you good people have collected over the years.
Anyways…while I was at Comikaze Expo a few weeks back, a fan brought a Malibu Sun publication for me to put my John Hancock on.
I was like…WOW!!!

Back in the 90’s…when the actual Spawn comic debuted, it had that SEXY green logo that I still use today.
BUT right before the comic came out in stores in 1992, the Malibu Sun did a preview of the first Spawn.
If you look at the picture below, there is a DIFFERENT logo AND and INKED cover!!

This is probably the ONLY publication that has an INKED Spawn issue one cover AND a hand-drawn logo by yours truly. For those of you who know your Spawn trivia, the finished number one was actually PAINTED…not just inked.

If you look at the cover of the Malibu Sun and the cover on the left (inked by the COOLEST 16 year old kid…ME), you’ll see I used flames in BOTH logos. I guess I had it in my head that ‘Spawn comes from Hell…and flames would be kinda cool’. So my inner 16 year old was still telling me to use THAT logo…which I STILL use today!

Enjoy.
