HOCKEY LICENSE SIGNED!

Hockey Figures Will Have Official Team Logos

June 15, 2001

It's a done deal. After more than a year of concerted efforts, negotiations are complete, agreements are signed and McFarlane Toys will begin producing hockey action figures with official team logos, uniforms and colors, not to mention the player likenesses the company was already known for.

This partnership between McFarlane Toys, the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players' Association is a historic and long-awaited one.

"I'm glad we're finally able to go all the way with these hockey figures and show people what we can really do," McFarlane said. "I think the combination of our sculpts and detail along with official team logos will prove to be the coolest hockey action figures ever produced."

    NHL representatives were similarly pleased.

"The NHL is thrilled to align ourselves with the premiere sports action figure manufacturers in the industry," said Brian Jennings, group vice president of NHL Consumer Products Marketing. "Todd's passion for the game and unparalleled detail toward the figures will make this partnership a win for retailers and consumers alike."

The first series to be affected is our next hockey line, McFarlane's Sports Picks: NHL Hockey. The lineup remains the same:

    • Jose Theodore, Montreal Canadiens goaltender, No. 60

    • Martin Brodeur, New Jersey Devils goaltender, No. 30

    • Peter Forsberg, Colorado Avalanche center, No. 21

    • John LeClair, Philadelphia Flyers left wing, No. 10

    • Mats Sundin, Toronto Maple Leafs center, No. 13

    • Ed Belfour, Dallas Stars goaltender, No. 20

McFarlane, part-owner of the Edmonton Oilers, owner of Mark McGwire's record-setting 70th home run baseball and a certified sports nut, is looking forward to the future.

"I tell you, I'm just glad it's over," said Todd McFarlane, wiping his brow with a grin. "All the negotiations and stuff are concluded and now we can get down to doing what we do, namely, making the most accurately detailed and authentic sports action figures on the market and giving the fans what they deserve."

Look for the new NHL action figures in stores in September. And stay tuned to spawn.com for breaking news on the next hockey series lineup.
