McFarlane Companies Inked in Several Publications

Licensing, Toy Shop and ToyFare Mags all Feature Stories

January 14, 2000

  Blue Meanie (Beatles Yellow Submarine)

Spawn was recently honored in License! magazine. The December issue had a huge special feature on the greatest moments in licensing in the past 100 years. Todd McFarlane's Spawn empire was recognized for its transformation from a single issue of an independent comic book to toys to HBO animation to the $100 million-grossing live action movie. Spawn was honored in such esteemed company as Disney, Steven Spielberg, Superman, Batman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Pokémon and Peanuts.

McFarlane Toys was named Best Action Figure Manufacturer of 1999 in the Jan. 28, 2000, edition of Toy Shop magazine. The forum was a Readers' Poll, so the results are a testament to what the toy-buying market likes. In other awards, McFarlane action figures took the three top spots in the Best Action Figure, Small Scale category. Those figures were Blue Meanie (from The Beatles Yellow Submarine), Mini-Me (from the Austin Powers line) and Norman Bates (from Movie Maniacs II). Representatives from Toy Shop will present McFarlane Toys with a personalized award plaque at Toy Fair in New York in February.

Finally, the March issue of ToyFare magazine has several McFarlane blurbs, including a short interview with Todd on McFarlane Toys' direction for 2000 and the recent Todd McFarlane-Tim Burton "Sleepy Hollow" signing at FAO Schwarz in New York. Check it out on newsstands now.
