New 'Armitage' Anime Features Repaint
Tuesday, April 30, 2002

In breaking news that involves McFarlane Toys, Pioneer will be releasing several versions of the new anime Armitage: Dual Matrix. One of those versions includes a limited-edition McFarlane Toys action figure.
Naomi Armitage (voiced by Juliette Lewis) is an illegal "Third Type's" android that is the closest to human robot ever created. In Armitage III Poly-Matrix, the prequel, Naomi meets Ross Sylibus while working at the Martian Police Department (MPD). Attracted by their mutual cause to fight against the Martian Government, Naomi and Ross become partners.
In Armitage: Dual Matrix, they have changed their names and identities, and live with their daughter, Yoko, as a normal happy family on Mars until a robot riot breaks out at an anti-matter plant on Earth. Armitage learns the riot is a plot to suppress evidence of illegal research and development of more "Thirds" and decides to go to Earth to find out who is behind this heinous act. What Armitage discovers is the most powerful enemy she has ever encountered... replicas of herself!
The new anime, directed by Katsuhito Akiyama and produced by Pioneer Entertainment, will be available in four versions. The first is a feature-only DVD. The second is the special-edition DVD featuring the "Assembling Armitage" featurette, three tracks from the soundtrack, character design gallery, teaser trailer and a 16-page printed character guide. The third option is a two-disc set featuring the special-edition Armitage: Dual Matrix DVD and the prequel, Armitage III: Poly-Matrix also on DVD.
The final option is a Limited-Edition Armitage Lunch Box. Yes, it's actually a special Armitage lunch box. Inside is a copy of the special-edition Armitage: Dual Matrix DVD with added footage and a repaint version of the Naomi Armitage action figure from McFarlane's 3D Animation from Japan Series 2. The figure is packaged in a specially designed box just for this release.
Street date for all options is June 25.
