MLB 29 leads off 2012
Now Batting - Number 29...
Thursday, August 25, 2011
McFarlane Toys is proud to announce our MLB 29 SportsPicks lineup. This is our first baseball line for 2012, and also marks the first time we’ve offered current players and baseball legends in the same series. This impressive lineup includes two brand new sculpts, the SportsPicks debuts for a pair of outstanding shortstops, two superstars in new uniforms, and a new pose for one of the most beloved Yankees of all time.
Alex Rodriguez 6 (Brand new sculpt) - The Yankees' third baseman has piled up the awards and accolades during his stellar career. The 14-time All-Star, 3-time A.L. MVP and 2-time Gold Glove winner became the youngest player to hit 600 home runs, and now ranks sixth on the all-time home run list. His MLB 29 figure features a brand new sculpt, highlighting his defensive ability at third base.
Carl Crawford (New uniform) - Crawford grew famous as the face of the Tampa Bay Rays, as a four-time All-Star, a four-time stolen base champion, and a Gold Glove winner. After nine years, leading the charge in Tampa, Crawford signed a long-term deal with Boston and has immediately become a favorite son of Red Sox Nation.
Starlin Castro (SportsPicks debut) - On May 7th, 2010 the Chicago Cubs opened a new chapter and called up top prospect Starlin Castro. The rookie shortstop wasted no time turning heads, as he crushed a three-run homer in his first major league at-bat. The hits just kept on coming, and in his second season Castro has increased his home run/stolen base totals as well as his batting average. Tie that in with his slick defense and the shortstop position is in good hands for a long time at Wrigley Field.
Cliff Lee (New uniform) - After turning in brilliant seasons for the Indians, Phillies, Mariners and Rangers, Cliff Lee became baseball's most sought-after free agent last winter. With offers from several teams, the 2008 Cy Young Award winner chose Philadelphia, where he strengthened one of the best pitching rotations in the game. Philadelphia has run away with the N.L. East and now looks for a return to the World Series.
Troy Tulowitzki (SportsPicks Debut) – The seventh overall pick in the 2005 draft was starting at shortstop for Colorado one year later. “Tulo” finished second in the N.L. Rookie of the Year voting, and 18th in N.L. MVP race. He’s gone on to earn consecutive All-Star invites, a Gold Glove, and a pair of top-5 finishes in N.L. MVP voting. He combines power, speed and defensive ability with a dedication that has made him the unquestioned leader of the Rockies.
Josh Hamilton 3 (Brand new sculpt) – The Texas-sized slugger is well-known now (four consecutive All-Star appearances, 2010 A.L. MVP) but he was introduced to a nation of baseball fans when he turned the 2008 All-Star Home Run Derby into a solo act. Hamilton crushed a record 28 first-round homers, including 13 in a row, to bring the Yankee Stadium crowd to their feet. After delivering an MVP regular season in 2010, Hamilton led the Rangers all the way to their first-ever World Series.
Thurman Munson 2 (New batting pose) – The relentless catcher of the 1970s Yankees, Munson was honored by the team on April 17, 1976 when he was named the first Yankees captain since Lou Gehrig. The 1970 A.L. Rookie of the Year was a seven-time All-Star and the A.L. MVP in 1976. The Yankees and their fans were devastated when Munson died in a small plane crash on August 2, 1979. The brilliance of his too-short career left a permanent impression in the hearts of baseball fans everywhere.
MLB 29 will include four rare figures as part of the McFarlane Collector Level program, and is scheduled to arrive in stores in early February 2012. Stay tuned to www.mcfarlane.com for more details.
