TODD SELECTED TO DESIGN GUITARMANIA CENTERPIECE
Art Project to Benefit Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Arizona
Friday, November 10, 2006
Todd McFarlane and The McFarlane Companies have been selected to be a part of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Arizona's GuitarMania 2, an art project that comprises 25 authentic playable Fender Stratocaster guitars and one large-scale, oversized model guitar creatively transformed into works of art by local artists and national celebrities. The exhibit will be displayed throughout Phoenix for residents and visitors to enjoy through 2007.
Todd has been exclusively chosen to decorate the massive 10-foot-tall Fender Stratocaster replica, which will be the centerpiece of the collection. Corporations, organizations and individuals sponsor the guitars and select from a variety of local artists to paint, sculpt, or decorate them. Celebrity artists are also recruited to paint and decorate guitars; past celebrities have included Green Day, Sen. John McCain, Steve Nash, Stevie Nicks, Eddie Van Halen and many more. At the end of the display period, the guitars are auctioned, with proceeds benefitting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Arizona.
Todd is honored to have been chosen for this project. His concept for the guitar was to create an image that was uniquely Arizonan and visually striking. The guitar will be unveiled at an event next Friday, Nov. 17 at a VIP sneak peek, hosted by Arizona Diamondbacks president Derrick Hall.
