Todd Writes Intro to Book that Showcases Many McFarlane Figures
Friday, March 05, 2004
McFarlane Toys is well-known for producing some of the most realistic and authentic horror action figures in the collectibles industry. Many of them are highlighted in a book from Tomart's released in late 2003, Tomart's Price Guide to Horror Movie Collectibles.
It all started in October 1998 with the launch of Movie Maniacs Series 1. That line included such horror greats as Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Eve from Species II, Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street, Patrick from Species II and Jason Voorhess from Friday the 13th. Since then, McFarlane Toys has released six Movie Maniacs lines (Series 7 will be released in October), two McFarlane's Monsters series (Series 3 coming this summer), and two Clive Barker's Tortured Souls series (a third series of Barker figures due out in August). These lines, plus many others including Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow, McFarlane's Monsters playsets and our Alien-Predator franchise have kept McFarlane on top of the heap for the horror genre collector for many years.
"McFarlane Toys can easily be pegged as the reason horror movie collectibles are so popular today," said Nathan Hanneman, Tomart's writer and the book's co-author. "The introduction of Movie Maniacs grouped so many of the greatest modern horror movie icons in a single collector line. Such a massive crowd of genre characters haven't successfully been merchandised together since the Universal Monsters of the 1930s and '40s."
When Tomart's was finalizing the book, they invited McFarlane Toys founder and CEO Todd McFarlane to write the book's introduction. He is by joined Rob Zombie, rocker and creator of House of 1,000 Corpses, who penned the foreword; and Doug Murray and Forrest Ackerman, two of the principals involved with the long-running Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine, who wrote the epilogue.
"Todd was the natural choice for writing the introduction for the book, as he helped introduce so many new fans to the great world of horror movie collectibles," Hanneman said.
Tomart's Price Guide to Horror Movie Collectibles is 160 pages of full (blood-dripping) color that covers the merchandising of most every major studio (and low-budget) feature horror film. It's available on www.tomart.com and at booksellers everywhere for $29.95. But, as is often the case, the Spawn.com Prize Patrol has secured a few for our fans, compliments of Tomart's.
The contest runs from today through noon MST on Thursday, March 11, 2004. First prize will be an autographed copy of the book, along with three Todd McFarlane's Monsters Playsets. Second prize will be an autographed copy of the book along with two Movie Maniacs figures chosen by McFarlane Toys. Third prize is an autographed copy of the book. Go to http://www.spawn.com/info/contests.aspx for all the rules and to enter the contest. Winners will be announced here on Friday, March 12.
Todd will also be the subject of an interview conducted for Monsterama, which is occurring this week at the spawn.com headquarters. The TV crew will spend time filming many current and classic McFarlane figures, along with interviewing Todd and much more. The show is being produced for American Movie Classics' new channel, the Monster's Channel on the HDVOOM Network, and spotlights the great monsters of movie history, and the technical wizards and creators who brought them to the screen. Monsterama also places heavy emphasis on the collectible toys and models that have been spun off from those movies. Look for more information about this show and Todd's interview in the coming weeks.
