McFARLANE QUOTED IN NEW SPORTS BUSINESS BOOK
Win Autographed Copies of 'On the Ball' in New Contest
Friday, March 07, 2003
ESPN.com sports business writer Darren Rovell and Sports Business Group founder David. M. Carter have just released On The Ball: What You Can Learn About Business From America's Sports Leaders. It's a business book that draws on the passion of sports and explores how businesses can use the knowledge and experience of sports business leaders to enhance skills, success and ultimately the bottom line.
The new book draws on both good and bad anecdotes from the sports world and translates them into methods for helping businesses achieve their goals. When Darren was developing his part, he asked Todd to lend his name to the project in the form of an endorsement, as well as use an anecdote from McFarlane Toys' early days producing sports figures. Darren has interviewed Todd before for stories on ESPN.com as well as ESPNews.
"Todd is one of the best as far as appealing to the business person and the sports fan alike," said Darren. "People know him from his Spawn success, from buying the McGwire home run baseball or from his ownership of the Oilers and the development of their third jersey, and of course from his relentless pursuit of excellence in developing the McFarlane's Sports Picks franchise."
The anecdote on McFarlane Toys addresses an early miscommunication with a factory in Hong Kong that led to the release of some hockey figures with an incorrect water bottle.
