NFL Figures In Tow, Fans Waited for Hours to Meet Todd

Several hundred fans of football, Todd and McFarlane Toys braved freezing weather to attend a special signing at Toys 'R' Us Times Square in New York City Jan. 20, as part of the month-long Super Bowl feature shop -- in celebration of the NFL's Super Bowl XXXVII.

Die-hards were lined up outside the company's flagship store before 8 a.m., more than four hours ahead of the noon signing. And those fans scooped up most of the added inventory of McFarlane's Sports Picks: NFL figures for Todd to sign during the three-and-a-half hour event.

According to our man on the scene, Steve "the Victim" Hamady, everyone was happy to wait in the long line to meet Todd. They queried him about sports and Sports Picks, animation, movies, action figures, comic books and, of course, Spawn. "The atmosphere was great, and the enthusiasm from the crowd was obvious," Hamady said.

A unique part of the day involved a drawing to win a one-of-a-kind, pewter-washed two-up prototype of Michael Vick, quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons. The lucky winner was Tara Dzithko from Bridgewater, NJ, a.k.a. "TALYDZ" from the message boards.

"I would like to thank Todd for all the years of making great toys and comics," Tara said. "I have never won anything before and feel very privileged and honored to receive this and will proudly display this work of art in my home. You won't ever find it on eBay. Thanks again, Todd."

The staff at the store was also pleased with the event. "Toys 'R' Us Times Square and our guests had a wonderful experience with Todd and his entire team," said Kathleen Waugh, director of special events. "We look forward to having him back in the future for other events."
