TODD DIRECTS LIVE-ACTION MUSIC VIDEO
Swollen Members, Nelly Furtado Team Up For Project
Friday, December 06, 2002
When your first two music video projects garner dozens of international accolades, including a Grammy award and two MTV Video Music Awards for Korn's Freak on a Leash plus a Grammy nomination for Pearl Jam's Do the Evolution, is it fair to say "the third time's a charm"?
With that experience in tow, Todd and TME president Terry Fitzgerald are heading to Canada to shoot their first live-action video. This time it's the Swollen Members video for their newest song Breath, the Canadian hip-hop crew's second single from their third album, Monsters in the Closet. The video will also feature long-time friend Nelly Furtado.
As a follow-up to their platinum-selling sophomore album, Bad Dreams, Swollen Members are keeping the momentum in full-swing with the latest release. Monsters includes new singles, unreleased tracks and remixes. In addition to Furtado, guests include Def Jam recording artist Saukrates, plus production from Evidence (Dilated Peoples), Saukrates, Kemo, Rob the Viking and others.
"Being a fan of the band and a fellow Canadian, I was intrigued when they called on us to work on this video, a mere month after picking up their new album here in Los Angeles," Fitzgerald said.
The band members are fans of Todd, as well. "I'm a huge fan of his comic books, and I collect his toys, so we're very excited about being able to make a video with Todd," said Mad Child.
"It's a great honor to be able to work with him," added Prevail. "He is the one who inspired me to get into comic books in the first place. He is a very talented visual artist and we're very excited to see what we can do together."
Breath is currently gaining momentum with fans across Canada. And the band won four 2002 MuchMusic Awards, including "Best Rap Video," "Best Independent Video" and "Video Fact Award"; as well as winning Juno Awards (Canada's version of the Grammy) in both 2001 and 2002. The video for Breath is scheduled to be shot in mid-December for a premiere in January 2003.
