Teams With Action Performance to Create New Company
Tuesday, October 29, 2002

By some cruel twist of fate, the McFarlane-NASCAR connection cat is out of the bag. Now, time for the "official" word ...

It's all true.

Yes, speed-fiends, Todd McFarlane has a new partner in, er, time (think elapsed time): Action Performance.

The two have combined their knowledge and expertise in their individual fields to create a new venture: Action McFarlane. This new company will handle all facets of the upcoming NASCAR action figures.

Action Performance, also based in Phoenix, is something of the Holy Grail when it comes to motorsports. Given that McFarlane is the Holy Grail of detailed action figures, it seems the joint venture was bound to happen.

Add to that the fact that NASCAR pretty much tops the list of most-wanted figures from our fans (maybe they'll stop flooding our e-mail in-boxes with requests now), and action figures of top drivers is a no-brainer.

Action Performance has exclusive licensing agreements with NASCAR's top drivers, including eight of 2001's Top 10 Winston Cup finishers. While the initial line - set for a summer 2003 release - has not been solidified at this time, it will likely include such drivers as Rusty Wallace, Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Tony Stewart, among others.

NASCAR popularity is at an all-time high and Action Performance has been riding that wave for years.

"I've always felt, if you are going to be successful in business, then hang around the experts," said Todd McFarlane. "In this case, that becomes Action Performance. By using the company's history and skill in delivering high-quality NASCAR merchandise, as well as Action Performance's vast knowledge of the NASCAR community in general, it became obvious to our companies that joining forces would be in the best interest of both parties."

Again, no solid details on lineups or specific release dates at this time. Look for that information here as it becomes available.
