An annual collection of artwork, Spectrum 6: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art, has given its Silver Award for Advertising Art to Ashley Wood for his cover to the Spawn Annual, published in May 1999.
Ashley, who submitted a total of five pieces to the annual juried competition, said, "Spectrum is a collection of all the best fantasy artists in the world, and even getting second is great when you are up against the best in the field that I'm in."
For his efforts Ashley won a sculpture.
Kent Williams also received recognition for his painted cover of the first Crow comic book, published in February 1999. It was one of the first in a series of painted covers for TMP comic books, according to art director Brent Ashe. "Kent manages to capture fantasy and sophistication at the same time, making something that couldn't be real look possible."
Spectrum 6 is an extremely colorful 175-page publication featuring science fiction, fantasy, horror and the surreal art works.
