SPIDEY CONTEST ON SPAWN.COM
Hunt Down the Spider, Win Signed Swag

As most of you likely know, the long-awaited Spider-Man film opens nationwide on Friday, May 3. Considering the typhoon of hype that's accompanying the movie - starring Tobey Maguire, Willem Dafoe and Kirsten Dunst, and directed by Sam Raimi - some of the powerful breeze is blowing on Todd McFarlane. Though he obviously didn't create the character, his work on The Amazing Spider-Man was an important step in the hero's legacy.

Later, with the debut of Todd's own Marvel title, Spider-Man, in 1990, the character was transformed with McFarlane's unique style. That book sold some 2.5 million copies - one of the best-selling comics of all time - and cemented Todd's spot in the history of the character.

Though neither Todd nor his companies have a business interest in the new film, it's always positive for a movie based on a comic to garner such attention.

With that in mind, we'd like to add to the Spider-Man movie frenzy with our Spider Hunt contest here on spawn.com. Here's the scoop: To enter, you must track down a spider somewhere on spawn.com (spiders are hidden on pages throughout the site). Once you find a spider, click on it to enter the Spider Hunt giveaway.

Of all entries received, four randomly selected winners will receive one of these comic books (from Todd's personal collection) signed by Todd McFarlane: Spider-Man #8, Spider-Man #13, Amazing Spider-Man #318 or Amazing Spider-Man #319. The grand-prize winner, also selected at random, will receive a signed copy of Torment, the trade paperback containing issues 1-5 of Spider-Man.

The contest begins May 2, 2002 at 5 p.m. PST and will end May 9, 2002 at 5 p.m. PST. Anyone is eligible to enter. You may enter only once. Multiple entries will be unceremoniously tossed. Only entries received before the contest deadline will be considered. Winners will be announced in the News section on May 10, 2002, and prizes will be mailed out immediately. Good luck!

In other Spider-Man movie news, Todd has also been deluged with media requests. Stories will be appearing in such august publications as the Arizona Republic and New York Newsday, as well as a filmed bit with Todd that's slated to appear in the Spider-Man DVD when it's released.

Finally, since we're talking about comic books, remember that Saturday, May 4 is free comics day. Please support your local comic book shop.
