McFARLANE TOYS SIGNS DEAL WITH NFL AND PLAYERS INC.
McFarlane's Sports Picks Football Figures Will Have Team Logos
June 12, 2001
Are you ready for some football? Todd McFarlane is. So, the folks at McFarlane Toys are bringing their award-winning style to America's #1 sport by releasing action figures highlighting some of today's most recognizable NFL stars. McFarlane's Sports Picks NFL action figures will be officially licensed by both the NFL and Players Inc, and mark Todd's third major sports licensing agreement in 18 months.
Once the first series hits shelves in August, sports collectors are sure to do an end zone dance when they see figures sporting McFarlane Toys' picture-perfect likenesses, official team logos, and authentic game apparel and gear. Each will stand approximately 6 inches tall and can be positioned in a signature pose on a football field base. Just to add a touch of reality, the figures are adorned with grass and mud stains, not to mention the blood of gridiron battle.
Timing is everything for the sports fan turned toy mogul who owns a piece of the Edmonton Oilers and Mark McGwire's 70th home run baseball. "When I announced my first players association sports licenses last year, I expected to have to wait several years before I'd have the opportunity to work with the major sports leagues," Todd said. "But this year, I found myself definitely in the right spot at the right time, having already proven that we can create sports figures that truly capture dead-on the look and attitude of the players, which appealed to both the league and the collectors."
McFarlane Sports Picks NFL action figure series one will be released in August and include:
• Emmitt Smith, Dallas Cowboys running back, No. 22
• Edgerrin James, Indianapolis Colts running back, No. 32
• Randy Moss, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver, No. 84
• Kurt Warner, St. Louis Rams quarterback, No. 13
• Warren Sapp, Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle, No. 99
• Eddie George, Tennessee Titans running back, No. 27

"McFarlane Toys has done outstanding work in capturing the energy and intensity of some of today's most popular NFL stars," said NFL Vice President of Consumer Products Gene Goldberg. "NFL fans will find great enjoyment in the quality of these player likenesses."
With this announcement, Todd McFarlane is three-quarters of the way toward his goal of providing fans with the most realistic representations ever sculpted of athletes in all four major American sports, having already brought his realism to baseball and hockey.
"We are excited about working with McFarlane Toys," commented Dawn Ridley-Nash, Players Inc assistant vice president of trading cards and collectibles. "We are glad to see the excellence in entertainment created by McFarlane Toys translated into an NFL player product."
